Default Has the GW1 Weekend events stopped?

I would like some confirmation on this. For the last weekend (4/20-4/22), there was absolutely no weekend event.

At least for the weekend before that there was the double Codex arena reward but no announcement. For this coming weekend, I expect the birthday celebration and GW2 Beta.

However, I don't know if GW1 would even continue to have any more weekend event after the birthday celebration week since the Live team has moved on to work on GW2. Would we have anymore GW1 weekend events after that?

That's particularly weird as normal weekend events schedule should all be automatized, such as daily quests...hope they haven't abanndoned us even on that. -.-

If that were the case, then why didn't we have a weekend event last weekend? (4/20-4/22). It was predicted to be an AB weekend, despite no login announcement again, but there was no double bonus in AB last weekend.

I have this sinking feeling that moving the Live team over to GW2 implies no more weekend events for GW1 last weekend and after the birthday celebration.

What I have asked for previously and hope it gets some consideration is they take all the old weekend events and put them in the form of a zaishen mission/bounty type option where you can go to a certain NPC and select one of the events such as double faction, or triple green drop and do that for any day of the week. Now obviously it would need to be regulated to one event a day and possibly some events couldn't run but I think that would be a solution to this problem as well as helping people with HOM for GW2 and allow more freedom to play. I think it would be a cool idea especially for guilds where they can arrange their own event days or weekends without having to rely on A-net.

there was no login announcement for the sweet treat weekend either--these SHOULD be automated, however, the announcements are not---so one would think that there will be weekend events similiar to last years, but sans the announcement since that must take much too much time to post...

But there was no weekend event last weekend, ever since they have moved the Live Team over to GW2. It is not just a problem with the annoucement.

A very small bit of research will tell you that the weekend events that have occurred lately have also occurred much the same way as in 2011 and in 2010. In both cases, especially in that of 2011, the order in which weekend events occurred were identical. Additionally, this last weekend was the typical time for the Birthday Celebration to begin, and as such, they likely would have chosen to not schedule an event for this time.

So they messed up, because they forgot to schedule something for last weekend to replace the Birthday Celebration that didn't take place.

I don't think you should go so extreme as to say that weekend events entirely have been abandoned, but you should recognize that given Stumme's latest announcement, we basically have no Live team right now, and thus nobody paying attention to whether events are properly set to run or not.

No as I understand it, last weekend (4/20-4/22) wasn't suppose to be the birthday celebration. This coming weekend (4/28-5/4) is suppose to be the birthday celebration.

Check the wiki. The prediction for last weekend(4/20-4/22) was AB bonus weekend, but it didn't happen. If you look at the 2011 weekend events schedule, the birthday celebration happened on the 4/28 which would match this weekend (4/28) rather than last weekend (4/20-4/22).

Nothing happened last weekend (4/20-4/22) ever since they made the annoucement that the Live Team moved over to GW2.

since the birthday celebration tends to not occur the same weekend each year I believe Shayne is correct--last weekend could have been originally scheduled as part of the birthday celebration time----HOWEVER, with that date not set, a MANUAL event would needed to have been added for that date IF the bday stuff didnt start then.

so yeah, they missed last weekend since it was probably NOT automated ---as most weekends supposedly are now.

so we have to wonder exactly how much time it does take to re-automate an already automated event----

i think last weekend was the double faction part - im assuming so because my alliance`s faction rose quite a bit which only happens if a weekend event is on.

So the wiki prediction for it to be a AB double bonus weekend was wrong as it was suppose to be the birthday celebration? I wonder how automated these things are anyway. Everyone is saying it is automated, but is that word from ANet or someone just guessed that and everyone just assumes so.

It was the wiki prediction for last weekend to be a double bonus AB so many people were ABing based on this and some even tried to "trick" their alliance members to AB with them, but there was no double bonus.

no, the wiki was not wrong, IF the birthday celebration didnt happen (which is didnt) the ab weekend should have been happening, however, since the birthday weekend moves--the weekends before/after are most likely NOT automated, which means that even though it SHOULD have been an ab weekend--it was not automated, and therefore did NOT happen.

A few years ago they mentioned that they were automating events and such (it was a while ago so finding the quotes would take more time than I have)---but some of the weekends are working--the sweet treat weekend while not announced did happen (though it started well in advance of the weekend ....)
so my theory is most of the weekends are automated if the do not occur at a time when an event (birthday, wintersday, halloween etc) happens, the weekends around those events are NOT automated and thus wont happen if someone doesnt hit the button. (we have seen this happen with the lockpick weekend that happens around the beginning of the year --if memory serves, happening even though another weekend event was planned).

It appears that the weekend events were doubled up for the first weekend of this month, with both the Sweet Treat and Arena events active. That could have messed things up a little bit. Perhaps the Arena and Codex Arena weekends were premature, thus doubling up on the 6th and leaving the 20th bare.

Daesu - please remember that wiki is a public document that is changed by people who assume things - not always correctly. People assumed that because the 7th Anniversary would not be on the same weekend as 2011, that the AB weekend would move - that doesnt happen if somethings programmed to happen based on the weekend# in the year.

In 2011 - codex was on the 15th or 3rd weekend in April.
In 2012 - codex was on the 13th or 3rd weekend in April

In 2011 - sweet treat was on the 22nd or 4th weekend in April
In 2012 - sweet treat was earlier in the month due to easter being a moveable celebration.

In 2011 - AB was on the 29th or 5th weekend in April
In 2012 - I would assume the auto programming would put it for the upcoming weekend 27th (the 5th weekend in the month)

So my "guess" is that we will have 2 events this weekend - "if" GW1 has someone to turn on the 7th Celebration event....which should start on Thurs 26th

Not trying to nit pick, but the birthday celebration has always been over the last saturday of the month of April, so unless you have official word, April 28th should be the intended weekend for the birthday celebration.

In any case, last weekend was empty so they can only celebrate it on the weekend of April 28th. I sure hope that they are not abandoning weekend events with the Live Team move, I have not heard any official word about this yet.

@Lycan: I hope you are right. In any case, next weekend should be GW2 BWE and Birthday Celebration. This SHOULD be right.

Exactly Shayne, as Easter moves from year to year, the sweet treats move with it, thus leaving a hole last weekend.
